Challenge
A large French aerospace company was struggling to produce enough aircraft galleys to meet the demands of their customer. The galley assembly process involved a lot of non-repeatable manual processes and a large labor force in a high-cost geography. The company had to utilize a lot of overtime and expedited shipping to be able to keep up with their customer’s demand.
Solution
We conducted a Value Stream Mapping exercise to understand the current state process. We obtained detailed time study data of the current state and then facilitated a gap analysis and solutioning session with key stakeholders. We then created an ideal future-state process. We ran simulations to quantify the before and after results. We achieved an 80% throughput improvement and a yearly cost savings of over $3 Million which allowed our client to easily meet their customer’s demand.
